The SCA, or Society of Creative Anachronism,

is an international non- profit organization that recreates the idealized life and arts of the Middle Ages.
This runs the gamut of time periods from Roman times, even though it is not the Middle Ages it is kind of open ended, to the ending time around 1600 the web pages will have the specific time frame. We participate in all parts of the time frame and do our best to recreate everything from the fighting styles to the arts like calligraphy, cooking, brewing, costuming and even the politics. Now we do not have a strict adherence to accuracy but try to get the romanticize ideals of chivalry and honor to incorporate all we do. Some play a very straight historical game and some do not which is fine because all are allowed to play and you just have to make an attempt at the Middle Ages. Now for some more specific information on me in particular is I have been in the SCA since 1989 with a few years of inactivity due to family and work. I am currently the Knight Marshal of the local group, which is I am in charge of the fighting locally. As the organization on a local and regional level is laid out we currently reside in the Barony of Northkeep in the Kingdom of Ansteorra ; this basically entails that the greater Tulsa area and its surroundings for the Barony and Oklahoma and Texas as the kingdom. We have a king that is chosen through the right of arms or a tournament held every six months. The winner gets to become King and they Crown their consort Queen. He or she can hold the crown as many times as they want or can win but just can not be crown consecutively. So you can see we have royalty all the way down to a standard Lord and Lady. We have awards that are given out which hold meaning to the person receiving it who work very hard to achieve them and can be the simple Award of Arms to a peerage level award for the excellent achieved in a specific area. For example for the fighting level you have the Sable Talon then the Sable Falcon then the Centurion of the Sable Star and then the peerage of Knighthood. These are all specific towards fighting with Knighthood being the most difficult to achieve being similar to achieving a black belt in an Eastern Martial art. But other areas have them as well like the Arts and Sciences or Service to the Kingdom. I mainly participate in the fighting arts but do dabble in other areas as well. This is just a quick version of what we are about and I would strongly suggest that you talk to others who may have better or more complete information. I do believe the society does have a media liaison person or you can talk to the person we call the Hospitalilar here and that person can give you much better information, that person can be found by navigating to our Baronial website Northkeep.ansteorra.org and looking on the officers page. As you know we do have a practice at the VFW post 577 on Wednesday nights starting around 7:00pm as well as a general business like meeting the last Monday of the month at Martin East Library starting around 7:00pm as well.
